DUBLIN, Ireland: April 2025 marked the third-warmest April in Ireland since records began in 1900, according to Met Eireann, which also confirmed the country's highest-ever April temperature—25.9°C—was recorded in Athenry, Co Galway, on April 30.
Describing April as "a month of contrasts," the national forecaster said it began with heavy rainfall but ended with unusually high temperatures. The average temperature across the island was 10.60°C—1.72°C above the 1991 to 2020 average and 2.50°C higher than the 1961 to 1990 baseline.
The warmest April on record was in 2011, with an average of 11.23°C, followed by 2007. April 2017 holds the title for driest.
Alongside the new national record in Athenry, 16 other stations also logged their highest April daily maximum on record, while Dublin Airport matched its previous high.
Earlier in the month, Knock Airport in Co Mayo, Mount Dillon, and Gurteen in Co Tipperary each recorded their wettest April day on record on April 18.
Met Eireann said Saturday will begin mostly dry, with the best sunshine in southern areas. Patchy drizzle in Ulster will drift south through the day, with sunny spells following from the north. Temperatures will reach 12°C to 17°C in moderate northerly winds.
High pressure is expected to bring mostly dry conditions through the weekend. May 4 was cool, with afternoon showers mainly in Leinster and Munster. Highs ranged from 9°C in the northeast to 15°C in the southwest, with light to moderate northeasterly breezes.
The Bank Holiday on May 5 was largely dry, with sunny spells and highs between 11 and 14°C.
