HANOI, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam exported the first batch of bird's nest products to China following a protocol signed in November, 2022 between the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and the Chinese General Administration of Customs, Vietnam News reported Friday.
The products are manufactured by AVANEST Vietnam Nutrition Joint Stock Company, the first Vietnamese firm allowed to provide processed bird's nests and cooked bird's nest pots to China.
Bird nest farming for commercial purposes is a new industry in Vietnam that started in 2004 in the southern provinces and has developed rapidly over the last decade.
Forty-two out of 63 localities in Vietnam, mostly in south-central and Central Highlands regions, engage in bird's nest farming with over 22,000 bird's nest houses, according to the MARD's Department of Livestock Production.
The country's annual bird nest output is about 150 tons worth over 600 million U.S. dollars.
According to the MARD, 14 agricultural products of Vietnam have been allowed to be exported to the Chinese market, including bird's nest, dragon fruit, rambutan, longan, mangosteen, mango, jackfruit, lychee, watermelon, durian, and banana.
